As it is the first day of 2012, it is only suitable to sum up the last events at Kensington Gate of 2011 and also to take a look at what lies ahead.

In September, Mackenzie and I attended a weekend course in tracking. She comes from a family of competing tracking dogs and this was quite evident as she showed a lot of talent and enthusiasm. I hope to continue to further her skills (or more importantly - mine!) in the near future.

In November, we had the great pleasure of entering the MyDog 2011 show - the biggest annual show held in Norway. A great number of Collies were entered and Mackenzie placed 3rd in open bitch. Judge was Michael Camac from Australia. Her litter sister N Ch KORAD Seamist Ice Blue went BOB. Kennel Seamist entered a breeder’s group (pictured) and won. Photo courtesy of Lill Ydse. In December, we entered a show under judge Suncica Lazic. Mackenzie was awarded her first CAC/CC and went 2nd best bitch. Her sister was BOB even at this show. Mackenzie’s critique:
Prop. female, beautiful head, beautiful expr, exc ear position, good neck, exc topline and tail position. Good substance, good underline, good bone, par. position of legs, correct ang, good temp, free movement, coat good color and quality.

As for looking up and ahead, first of all, Kensington Gate Collies will be relocating in 2012 if things go according to plan. We have found a beautiful old farm by the ocean with ample space.

Mackenzie will likely be bred when she comes into season and we may be able to offer puppies this summer. Sire to be announced.

In other news, the Norwegian Collie Club election will be held in April and I am running for president. More about this in the near future.

MDR-1 results

Mackenzie has been tested for MDR-1 by Genomia Genetic Laboratory

Result: Affected (-/-)

To learn more about the MDR-1 gene mutation, click here. Approximately 33% of collies are affected. In a nutshell, affected animals are hypersensitive to some drugs that should be avoided. It is advisable to avoid mating two affected individuals as all puppies will be affected.

Results NKK Intl show Oslo

Mackenzie received an Excellent and 2nd in class and a wonderful critique from judge Leif Ragnar Hjorth (NO)

"Excellent type and size, powerful but feminine head, correct bite, beautiful eyes, good ears, very good neck, well angulated, well developed chest, a bit thin today, well shaped croup. Transitional coat of good coarseness. Moved very well from every angle. Typical temperament."

As she is still putting on weight and also dropped her coat a month ago, I expected it would cost her a higher placement, but I am very pleased with the critique.

Huge thanks to Berit Klausen at Alertness Smooth Collies for showing Mackenzie today.

HD results in

We are pleased to announce that Mackenzie’s HD results are in with the best possible score; HD A.

Approved mentality analysis

We are pleased to inform that Mackenzie completed her official mentality analysis in Sweden along with 7 littermates. She displayed an extremely solid temperament and a high level of self control and control over her environment. She also displayed curiosity, confidence and she also turned out to be gun proof.

Kensington Gate Collies strongly believe in the importance of breeding for temperament. 14 out of 16 puppies out of the Seamist Snowstar x Twin City Beyond The Sea combinations have so far completed their mentality analysis, ALL gun proof and displaying courage and confidence. Congratulations to breeder Lolo Hawkins of
Seamist Collies. It is not only a feat to breed such consistantly solid dogs, but also to be so thorough in the choice of puppy buyers, who gladly and with great interest travel from near and far to support the Seamist legacy.

Presenting Mackenzie

Seamist Lavender Ice "Mackenzie" has arrived from Sweden! She came home last night and made herself at home instantly, befriending the youngest cat in the process. They played together until bedtime, and then Mackenzie fell asleep on the bedroom floor next to Mikkel and slept until the morning.

Mackenzie is a very promising puppy with a wonderful outgoing personality and fantastic front and rear construction with a lovely long neck. It will be very exciting to follow her development. Thank you, Lolo Hawkins, for entrusting me with this exquisite puppy.
